JURIJ ALSCHITZ and the european team of teachers The European Association for Theatre Culture has its artistic and pedagogic roots in the Russian theatre tradition. This tradition stands for a continuous process of research and development in acting methods, starting with Stanislavsky and further developed by Maria Knebel, Michail Budkevich, and Anatoly Vasiliev.

Prof. Dr. Jurij Alschitz received his first director training in Moscow under Professor J.N. Malkovsky, one of the last still living pupils of Stanislavsky. Then, after numerous productions in various cities throughout the former Soviet Union, he received his second course of training at the GITIS, the Russian Academy for Theatre Arts, under the masters Budkevich and Vasiliev, where he subsequently held a teaching post.
In 1987 Anatoly Vasiliev founded the theatre "School of Dramatic Art", where Jurij Alschitz regulary participated as director, actor and pedagogue from its inauguration and where he went on further developing his own rehearsal and training methods. Since 1992 Jurij Alschitz has been leading projects and seminars at universities and drama schools in Europe. The variety of languages, experiences, and theatre traditions is a stimulus for him to compare his own perception with that of foreign cultures and merge these together in a synthesis. Since 1994 he has been concentrating on research and teaching.
Author of various teaching handbooks

Prof. Dr. Jurij Alschitz feels bound by the master - pupil principle, imparting knowledge and the essentials gained from previous work from generation to generation. Master pupils from the three-year GITIS acting and directing classes, starting out with different artistic training backgrounds, different origins, and different experiences, have formed themselves as European team of teachers working with one common method.
